The Los Angeles Chargers are holding their breath after starting running back Melvin Gordon sprained his ankle in Week 16 versus the New York Jets. Gordon had to wear a walking boot days after the win, but he is optimistic that he will play against the Oakland Raiders in the final regular season game. The third-year workhorse had a huge outing Sunday, rushing 19 times for 81 yards and a touchdown and catching three passes for 47 yards. Gordon has at least 128 total yards and a rushing touchdown in the last two Chargers contests. The team said Gordon will be a game-time decision in Week 17.
Fantasy football Week 17: Start or sit Melvin Gordon?
Gordon is optimistic he can play Sunday in a must-win game for the Chargers. We break down the fantasy implications.

The Chargers need Gordon in the lineup to keep their playoff chances alive. Gordon lit up the Raiders in Week 6 for 150 yards and two touchdowns. The Raiders are average against running backs this season. They do not give up many rushing touchdowns, but they are tied for the second-most receiving touchdowns allowed to RBs in the league.
Fantasy impact: Gordon’s health will be something to watch all week. The swelling around his ankle is reported to be minimal, which is good. The Chargers also said they will let Gordon play without practicing this week. If he can play, he should be able to burn the Raiders again in the final game of the season. He is a must start, health permitting.
