Fantasy football waiver wire: Best wide receivers available in Week 2

The fantasy football season is finally underway. Check out the best waiver wire options at receiver this week. Other positions: QB | RB | WR | TE

We made it through the preseason and finally started the fantasy football season on Sunday. While the draft is a major component of fantasy football, playing the waiver wire might be just as important, if not more so. Making the right moves at the right time can mean the difference between winning your league or missing the playoffs altogether.

The byes are still a few weeks away, so we don’t recommend shaking up your lineup too much. but the wide receiver position already has several high-profile injuries. Allen Robinson is done for the year with a torn ACL, while Kevin White suffered a broken collarbone that also could end his season. We shouldn’t be reacting too much to one game, but if your team is already in a bind, here are some waiver wire options owned in 50 percent or less of Yahoo! leagues.

Corey Davis, Tennessee Titans (46 percent)

After Davis missed most of preseason with a hamstring injury, it made sense to be skeptical of a rookie receiver contributing early on. But hey, Davis was the No. 5 overall pick for a reason, and he outplayed Eric Decker on Sunday, getting six catches for 69 yards on 10 targets. It was an encouraging debut, especially if he already has a connection with Marcus Mariota. Davis has a tough test against the Jacksonville Jaguars’ defense with Jalen Ramsey and A.J. Bouye looming. If he passes that, he’ll be on the WR3 radar for the duration of the year.

Cooper Kupp, Los Angeles Rams (26 percent)

Speaking of promising rookie debuts, Kupp stole the show in L.A., catching four passes for 76 yards and a touchdown. Running an actual offense under Sean McVay, Jared Goff looked like a legitimate NFL quarterback for the first time in his career, and that should boost the fantasy prospects of every Ram. A natural pass catcher, Kupp should have another decent matchup with Washington next week.

Kenny Golladay, Detroit Lions (18 percent)

The Golladay hype cooled off after a big preseason debut, with questions about his early-season usage lingering. Well, his talent isn’t in question after Sunday, when Golladay was the difference-maker in the Lions’ win over the Arizona Cardinals. He made some incredible plays to score two touchdowns, burning Arizona’s defense and putting the game away late. Golladay has a tough road matchup with the New York Giants defense next week, but he should be owned in all fantasy leagues by this point.

Marqise Lee, Jacksonville Jaguars (16 percent)

The Jaguars have their gameplan set — feed Leonard Fournette and hide Blake Bortles as much as you can. It worked this week, but Bortles still needs to throw the ball occasionally, and Robinson’s loss leaves a ton of targets open. I prefer Lee over Allen Hurns, who seems to have fallen out of favor with the coaching staff. Lee was quietly productive last season and is healthy after an ankle injury limited him in camp. He has sleeper potential against a Titans defense that still has plenty of question marks.

Kendall Wright, Chicago Bears (14 percent)

Wright barely even saw the field before White’s injury, which is probably an ominous sign for his usage. Nevertheless, he’s the most accomplished receiver left in a group that’s quickly running out of name recognition. (Deonte Thompson and Tre McBride! Who?) Mike Glennon didn’t embarrass himself, but he wasn’t all that good, either, and this Bears pass offense will struggle for fantasy value. Wright is just a dart throw for fantasy owners still missing Cameron Meredith.
