Is Nathan Peterman ready to gain fantasy relevance in Buffalo in 2018?

The Buffalo Bills had a tough time at the quarterback position in 2017. Their signal caller the last three seasons, Tyrod Taylor, had a rough year that was plagued with injuries and mistakes. Taylor was subsequently benched in Week 11 for fifth-round rookie quarterback Nathan Peterman.

Peterman started two games for the Bills and played in a total of four games in 2017, but he was not impressive in any of his time on the field. The 171st overall pick finished his rookie campaign with 24 completions on 49 attempts for 252 yards, two touchdowns, and five interceptions. All five picks came in the first half of his Week 11 start. He also had seven carries for 23 yards on the ground. Peterman never had more than 15 attempts and seven completions in a game, and he never completed a full game this season.

The Bills are expected to part ways with Taylor in the offseason, which leaves the starting job to Peterman — for now. He is not ready to run an NFL offense, and the Bills will likely go after a quarterback with one of their top picks in the 2018 draft or trade for a veteran in the offseason. Either way, Peterman will have to overhaul his game in the offseason if he plans to compete for a starting role. He is should stay a backup in Buffalo for the foreseeable future.

Peterman does not have any fantasy value. The Bills experimented with their rookie QB last season at times, but is unlikely they will take that risk again given how bad he played. Peterman will be on waivers across all leagues next season.
