Only two rookie receivers had more receptions than Trent Taylor in 2017. They were Los Angeles Rams slot receiver Cooper Kupp and Pittsburgh Steelers wideout JuJu Smith-Schuster.
Trent Taylor proves he will be a valuable fantasy weapon in 2018
The 49ers slot receiver came through in clutch situations for his team last season. He looks to be a bigger asset in the passing game next season.

The San Francisco 49ers found a gem in the fifth round when they drafted Taylor. Taylor caught 43 balls for 430 yards and two touchdowns his first year in the league. He had the sixth-most receiving yards in the 2017 rookie class. The 177th overall pick also served as the 49ers punt returner and ranked 10th in the league at that job with an average of over 9 yards per return.
Taylor was a fixture in clutch situations for the 49ers last season. He caught 18 third-down passes for first downs in 2017. The rookie tied for the ninth most in that category in the league as well. Taylor’s only setback last season was dropped balls, something he can improve on heading into 2018.
Looking ahead to 2018
Things look promising for Taylor next season. He will have the summer to build a rapport with 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo. Garoppolo likes to throw over the middle, which favors Taylor’s chances. The 49ers receiving corps is going to be crowded next season when Pierre Garcon returns to the lineup, however. Taylor will have to be more consistent catching the ball to ensure he does not lose touches in the passing game.
Fantasy slant
Taylor is a promising slot receiver, especially in PPR leagues. He has the potential to breakout this season with Garoppolo under center. Owners should keep a close eye on him over the summer. Taylor should get drafted by the 10th round in most leagues next season.
