The Philadelphia Eagles put together one of the best backfields in the league this season. LeGarrette Blount led the charge to begin the year before Jay Ajayi joined the team in Week 9 and quickly added more power to the running game.
Corey Clement searches for fantasy footing in crowded 2018 backfield
The undrafted rookie rounded out the Eagles’ backfield in 2017. He will have tough competition for carries again next season.

Rounding out their strong backfield was the undrafted rookie from Wisconsin, Corey Clement. Clement made the most of his opportunities as the No. 3 back in Philadelphia. He ran for 321 yards and four touchdowns on 74 carries in his first year in the NFL. Clement also added 10 receptions for 123 yards and two touchdowns to the Eagles’ passing game.
Looking ahead to 2018
Clement is looking at another third-string role in the Eagles’ backfield next season. He will have to do a ton of work this offseason to take over a role from Blount or Ajayi. While he may not receive a significant amount of carries next season, Clement still has a place in Philadelphia’s running game. The rookie may have found his calling as a pass-catching running back. Clement led the rushing corps in receiving last season. He could have an expanded role in the passing game in 2018.
Fantasy Slant
It was hard to trust Clement as a real fantasy prospect right now. He has some promise as a pass-catcher out of the backfield, but he does not have enough guaranteed touches on a weekly basis to be fantasy relevant yet. Working behind Blount and Ajayi next season expect Clement to have another low volume. He will be available on waivers most of the season. Clement could become a hot item if one of the other Eagles’ rushers gets hurt at some point next season.
