The New York Giants were desperate on offense last season. One of their weakest pieces was the running game. Tuesday, the Giants made a move to get much-needed talent in the backfield. They signed longtime Carolina Panthers running back Jonathan Stewart to a two-year deal worth $6.9 million. The move reunites Stewart with former his former offensive coordinator Mike Shula. Stewart currently owns the starting role. However, the Giants might use their No. 2 draft pick on Penn State rusher Saquon Barkley if he is still available.
Giants begin to rebuild backfield with fantasy power back Jonathan Stewart
The longtime Carolina Panther signed a two-year, $6.9 million deal with the G-Men Tuesday. We break down the fantasy impact.

Stewart saw a decline in usage over the last couple seasons in Carolina. The 30-year-old lost a step over time dealing with injuries. Rookie Christian McCaffrey also took his starting job last season. However, Stewart was still able to contribute close to 700 yards and eight touchdowns to the Carolina Panthers’ offense in 2017.
Fantasy impact: The Giants got Stewart for insurance, which is a smart move. Stewart is a power runner who can still do a lot of damage as a third-down and red-zone back. He should make fantasy owners very happy handling goal-line snaps. Stewart will make a great RB2 next season.
