Steve Williams ‘Shocked’ To Be Let Go As Tiger Woods’ Caddy

Steve Williams, via a statement released Thursday through his website, said that Tiger Woods’ decision to part ways “came as a shock.”

Given the circumstances of the past 18 months working through Tiger's scandal, a new coach and with it a major swing change and Tiger battling through injuries I am very disappointed to end our very successful partnership at this time.

Woods and Williams were together for 13 of Tiger’s 14 major championships and were considered to be close personally. Williams had even attended Woods’ wedding to Elin Nordegren in 2005. Williams has been caddying for other players during Woods’ recovery from injury, most recently for Adam Scott during the 2011 British open. According to his statement, Williams will now be caddying for Scott permanently.

Having started my caddying career with Australian great Peter Thompson and working for Greg Norman in the 80's I am excited about the future working for another Australian.
