Tiger Woods’ withdrawal from the 2012 WGC-Cadillac Championship in the fourth round on Sunday appeared at first blush related to Woods suffering a leg or foot injury.
Tiger Woods Injury Update: Achilles Pain Forced WCG-Cadillac Withdrawal
But Tiger’s injury is to his Achilles tendon, according to a statement he issued after his withdrawal.
I felt tightness in my left Achilles warming up this morning, and it continued to get progressively worse. After hitting my tee shot at 12, I decided it was necessary to withdraw. In the past, I may have tried to continue to play, but this time, I decided to do what I thought was necessary.
Woods’ last withdrawal from a PGA Tour event came almost a year ago in the 2011 The Players Championship, but he withdrew from that event after taking almost a month off following leg injuries sustained at the 2011 Masters. He did not play competitive golf again until August following that withdrawal.
