Zach Johnson Wins 2012 Crowne Plaza Invitational

It was back and forth for a while, but Zach Johnson held off Jason Dufner with a 14-under performance to take home the 2012 Crowne Plaza Inviatational in Fort Worth. Johnson was assessed a two-stroke penalty on the final hole, but luckily entered the 18th with a three-stroke lead and earned the victory.

Johnson didn’t have his best round -- he was two-over for the day at 72, his worst round of the tournament -- but when you start the final round at -14, you have a pretty decent chance of winning regardless of your final round. Dufner had started the round a stroke ahead at -15, but poor play down the stretch doomed him: he had two bogeys and a triple bogey on his final 12, and ended the day at +4, leaving him three strokes behind Johnson.

On 18, Johnson forgot to replace his ball on the 18th after moving it out of the way of Dufner’s path, which ended up costing him two strokes. Luckily, the mental error didn’t cost him the tournament.

Dufner didn’t earn his third victory in four tournaments, but second isn’t bad either.
