Police video shows Tiger Woods failing sobriety test during DUI arrest

Police have released video from Woods’ DUI arrest in Florida.

Early Monday morning, Tiger Woods was arrested for DUI in Jupiter, Fla., near his home in Jupiter Island, something Woods blamed on prescription drugs, not alcohol. A mugshot of a disheveled Woods was released Monday afternoon, but the Jupiter police department held dashcam video of Woods after being stopped by police until Wednesday.

Here is part of that video, showing Woods attempting to undergo sobriety tests being administered to him by an officer:

As noted in a Jupiter police department report, a patrolman found the 41-year-old Woods asleep at the wheel of a black Mercedes that was idling but stopped on the road at about 3 a.m. on Monday. The vehicle had “fresh” damage in the form of two flat tires, as well as bumper damage on the driver’s side.

Woods exhibited “slow, sluggish, very slurred” speech and was “unable to walk alone,” according to the report and as seen on camera.

Though his blood alcohol content registered at .000 after two breathalyzer tests, Woods acknowledged at the time of his arrest that he had a mixture of drugs in his system. He later issued a statement blaming his behavior on an “unexpected reaction to prescribed medications.”

I understand the severity of what I did and I take full responsibility for my actions.

I want the public to know that alcohol was not involved. What happened was an unexpected reaction to prescribed medications. I didn’t realize the mix of medications had affected me so strongly.

I would like to apologize with all my heart to my family, friends and the fans. I expect more from myself too.

I will do everything in my power to ensure this never happens again.

I fully cooperated with law enforcement, and I would like to personally thank the representatives of the Jupiter Police Department and the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s office for their professionalism.

In the video, Woods appeared, as the police report noted, “cooperative” but “confused” about where he was coming from and going to at such an early hour.

Woods, who underwent a fourth back surgery last month and has not played competitively since February, will be arraigned in Palm Beach County circuit court on July 5 for driving under the influence and improper parking.
