PGA Championship 2017: Live updates, scores, leaderboard, highlights and more from Quail Hollow
Round 3 began a little late after poor weather Friday, but moving day promises some excitement even with Rory and Spieth lagging

The 99th PGA Championship is set up to be a memorable one, with Rory McIlroy the favorite to win on a Quail Hollow course he’s found great success at, while Open Championship victor Jordan Spieth tries to make it two majors in a row to complete the career grand slam.
To win, though, both have some work to do. Kevin Kisner and Hedeki Matsuyama ran out to a tie for first at 8-under, leaving Rory 10 strokes behind and Spieth 11 back. The top of the leaderboard is beginning to be populated with a few more familiar names, such as Jason Day tied for third at 6-under, Louis Oosthuizen at 5-under, and Rickie Fowler in seventh at 3-under. Brooks Koepka lurks a little further back at 1-under as moving day action begins on Saturday following inclement weather and darkness forcing the second round to an early-morning finish.
The field is battling a recently made-over par-71 Quail Hollow course that features a new version of Bermuda grass as well as the same sand as is used at Augusta National. Close to 1,000 trees were removed as well, giving a more open feel. The first and 11th holes were both changed and the fourth totally made new. However, The Green Mile — the 16th through 18th holes — should continue to be one of the tougher ways to finish up a round.
Follow along each day for updates of the action.
What’s happening Saturday?
9:50 a.m. -- The second round finished up about 9 a.m. with a cutline of +5. Adam Scott just sneaked into weekend play, while Justin Rose just missed at 6-over.
Due to the inclement weather on Friday forcing play to be suspended due to darkness before the round could be finished, PGA officials made the decisions to send golfers out in threesomes today rather than pairs. Cody Gribble, Charles Howell III and J.B. Holmes opened up the third round by teeing off at 9:50 a.m.
Eyes will be on Kevin Kisner and Hedeki Matsuyama later. Kisner shot back-to-back rounds of 67 to lead at 8-over, but Matsuyama turned in a 64 card late Friday to meet him there. They’re set to tee off at approximately 2 a.m.

Highlights
An ace!
Joost Luiten recorded a hole-in-one on the par-3 fourth hole Thursday, for the 40th ace at the PGA Championship since 1970.
Rory McIlroy reportedly skipped this shot off the cart path Friday.
What happened on Friday
9:20 a.m. — Phil Mickelson, after recording the worst PGA score he’s had on Thursday — 79 — has opened his day just as bad. He’s 1-over through three holes. Rory McIlroy is hanging around T29 with pars on his first two holes, while Jon Rahm moved up to T7 with a birdie on his opening hole. Finally, we have a new leader: Kevin Kisner birdied his opener as well to grab first all by himself at 5-under.
10:50 a.m. — Kevin Kisner has extended his lead to two strokes after birdying the sixth. Jon Rahm has gone in the wrong direction after sending his ball into the creek, while Rory has maintained a steady -1 for T22. The projected cut is currently +3.
11:45 a.m. — Rickie Fowler has moved up to a tie for fourth at 1-under for the day.
12:45 p.m. — A number of notable names are in danger of missing the cut. Phil Mickelson will for sure. But Rory McIlroy is +4, and Jon Rahm +3 currently. The projected cut — the top 70 players plus ties — stands at 4-over at this moment.
1:45 p.m. — Rory McIlroy closed with two birdies on the final three holes — and nearly a third -- for 1-over 72 for the day and 2-over for the tournament. The current cut line stands at 4-over, so Rory ought to be safe. Rickie Fowler shot 1-under 70, giving him 3-under total and a tie for third place. The afternoon leaders are beginning to take to the course, so expect the leaderboard to continue to change. Meanwhile Kevin Kisner leads by four strokes after going 4-under today.
3 p.m. — Kevin Kisner finished his day at 8-under for a solid four-stroke lead. Hideki Matsuyama is off to a nice start, 2 under through seven holes to climb 11 spots up to T4. In his quest for the career grand slam, Jordan Spieth is 1-over for the day and 2-over for the tournament through four holes.
4:15 p.m. — Louis Oosthuizen and Jason Day have both been making afternoon moves. Oosthuizen is 3-under for the day to move into T2 with Hideki Matsuyama. Day trails a stroke back after going 2-under through his first eight holes.
4:43 p.m. — Play has been suspended and a “seek shelter” order has been made at Quail Hollow due to lightning sighted in the area.
6:19 p.m. — Play is scheduled to resume at 6:25 p.m.
8:35 p.m. — Play was suspended due to darkness.
The day finishes with a two-way tie for first after Hideki Matsuyama’s incredible 64, which he completed after the inclement weather delay. Francesco Molinari also shot 64 to move 40 spots up to T4 at 5-under, while Jason Day’s 66 put him alone in third at 6-under.
What happened on Thursday
1 p.m. — Jordan Spieth’s quest for a career grand slam took a bit of a hit after he went 2-over through his first 14 holes at the PGA Championship on Thursday. Meanwhile, fellow threesome member Sergio Garcia completely imploded on his opening nine, and the top of the leaderboard features more than a few non-marquee names.
Those include five — Grayson Murray, Jim Herman, Gary Woodland, Brooks Koepka, and Thorbjorn Olesen — at the top, all at 3-under. Murray, along with Tony Finau and Patrick Reed tied at sixth at 2-under, have finished up their rounds.
2:10 p.m. — We have a new leader! Thorbjorn Olesen is alone in first at 4-under with two holes to go in his opening round. The first wave is starting to finish up. Spieth rallied a bit toward the end of his round, with two birdies in his final three holes, to finish at 1-over. So he’s five behind the leader, but it’s better than it could have been. Koepka, who played in the group with him, is tied for second at 3-under.
Meanwhile PGA odds favorite, Rory McIlroy, took the course at a little after 1:42 p.m.
3:15 p.m. — Rickie Fowler is off to a good start, climbing into the top 10 after birdies on two of the first four holes. Rory and Jon Rahm are both even though four. Chris Stroud finished well, going 3-under on his back nine for T2.
3:20 p.m. — Oops. So much for that. Rickie Fowler triple-bogeyed the fifth to fall into 40th place at 1-over.
4:35 p.m. — Bud Cauley has shot 3-under through 14, including recording birdies on holes two and three, to join the crowd in second place. Jon Rahm is having a nice round, making the turn at 2-under, good for T7. Rory is just behind him at 1-under. At the same time, Rickie Fowler climbed back up to 15th at 1-under, as well.
5:48 p.m. — Through 14 holes, Rickie Fowler has improved his standing by one shot and sits at 2-under -- tied with Jon Rahm who birdied 14 and is also tied for 6th at 2-under heading into the par-5 15th hole. Rory McIlroy, meanwhile, bogeyed 13 and double-bogeyed 14 and is now 1-over.
6:50 p.m. — With most players nearing the end of the round or finished at this point, the top of the leaderboard as it stands are Thorbjorn Olesen at 4-under and six American golfers tied for second place. That list includes Brooks Koepka and Kevin Kisner. Jordan Spieth finished his day at 1-over.
7:42 p.m. — Hideki Matsuyama shot a 64 on Friday, which allowed him to surge to the front of the leaderboard, sitting T1 at 8-under. His round was a pretty big improvement from his one on Thursday, during which he shot a 70. He’ll be one to keep an eye on Saturday to see if he can maintain this play.
