Once projected to be the No. 1 pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, Laremy Tunsil slid down the board on draft day all the way to No. 13 after a video of him smoking a bong surfaced just minutes before the draft.
Laremy Tunsil says bong video ‘happened years ago,’ doesn’t know who hacked his Twitter
The video was tweeted from Tunsil’s verified Twitter account before quickly being deleted. It sent NFL teams scrambling trying to figure out the details. According to reports the Baltimore Ravens went as far as removing Tunsil from their draft board entirely after seeing the video.
Although he dipped in the draft, Tunsil was eventually picked by Miami. Immediately after being picked, he was able to offer little insight into how the video made it to his Twitter account. He said his account was hacked and he isn’t sure who was responsible for the tweet. He also said that he found out in the greenroom, waiting for the draft to start.
“It was a mistake,” Tunsil said during an interview. “It happened years ago. Somebody hacked my Twitter account”
Old or not, the temporary damage was still done. While Tunsil was no longer expected to be a top-two pick, with both the Rams and Eagles slated to take quarterbacks, he was projected by some to go as high as No. 3. Instead, he was the third offensive tackle to come off of the board. Falling in the draft was out of Tunsil’s control, but he’s already trying to look ahead to his career.
“Like I said, I’m going to show everybody what a great person I am,” he said.
This will hardly be the last time Tunsil is asked about the situation. He reiterated many of the same comments during a post-pick interview.
