Magglio Ordonez Drawing Strong Interest From Red Sox

The Red Sox have a few spots they’d like to address on their roster. However, after trading for Adrian Gonzalez and reportedly working out a long-term contract extension, they don’t seem to have the money necessary to pull another home run by, say, signing Carl Crawford. So, as they search for some help in the outfield, one second-tier player who has caught their eye is Magglio Ordonez.

The Red Sox have been sniffing around Crawford and Carlos Beltran, and had interest in Jayson Werth, but they like Ordonez’s right-handedness and steady level of production. He is a player they could bring in to be a semi-regular in a rotation with Mike Cameron and Jacoby Ellsbury.

The Tigers also have strong interest in bringing Ordonez back, while the Phillies and Orioles are hanging around as well. After missing much of the 2010 season with a broken ankle, Ordonez worked out for a few teams on Wednesday to show that he’s healthy, and agent Scott Boras is seeking a two-year contract for the 36-year-old outfielder.
