2013 MLB Draft results: OF Hunter Renfroe selected by Padres with the No. 13 pick
The San Diego Padres selected OF Hunter Renfroe with the No. 13 overall pick in the 2013 MLB Draft. It took some time to realize his potential, but Hunter Renfroe greatly improved his stock from he went in the 31st round of the 2010 draft.

Scouts have watched Renfroe since his days in high school, but after a couple of lackluster seasons in college, he almost fell off the MLB pre-draft hype list. After rarely playing as a freshman and only hitting .252/.328/.374 as a sophomore, Renfroe clicked as a junior hitting .345/.435/.632 with 15 home runs during the regular season and SEC Tournament. Renfroe switched from catcher to outfield to help his bat and will likely stick with that position at the next level.
As a power hitter with a big swing, Renfroe tends to strike out more often than most. He balances that with a good walk rate, generating almost as many walks (34) as he did strikeouts (39) this season. Even with his recent change of positions, Renfroe held his own in the outfield and has what MLB.com calls a “cannon for an arm.”
