When the San Francisco Giants handed the ball to Madison Bumgarner for Game 5, it was seemingly placed into good hands. That's proved to be true with Bumgarner continuing to dominate this postseason. He shut out the Royals for the first eight innings on Sunday, bringing him to 46⅔ innings pitched this season, the second most all-time, according to ESPN Stats & Info.
Madison Bumgarner continues dominance with 8 shutout innings
The Giants ace continues to dominate and is approaching the most innings pitched in postseason history.

Bumgarner has been close to flawless this postseason. With eight shutout innings in Game 5, Bumgarner has now pitched 46⅔ innings this postseason while allowing just six earned runs. As good as those numbers are, they don't compare to how good Bumgarner has been in the World Series. In 30 innings pitched in the World Series, Bumgarner has allowed just one earned run and only 12 hits. There is the advantage of having an ace on staff, then there is the colossal advantage the Giants have had by giving the ball to Bumgarner this postseason. He's been so good, opposing hitters are left to just stare blankly like Billy Butler did after striking out.
With his pitch count at 107 through eight, Bumgarner may not finish off Game 5, although it would be hard to take the ball out of his hands.
