The Indians win streak means a local company has to give $1.7 million back to fans

Since they reached 15 straight wins, one company will be issuing a lot of rebates.

The Cleveland Indians are on an impressive win streak right now, having won 14 straight and on the verge of hitting 15 should they beat the Chicago White Sox again on Thursday night.

Within the win streak, they had a 67-inning streak where they never trailed that last more than a week, and are currently dealing with the Diamondbacks stealing their thunder.

If this win streak does continue past Thursday night (which, it’s the White Sox so it’s pretty probably that it will) it could mean a windfall for certain Indians fans, all thanks to a local businessman who serendipitously chose the number 15 to use for a fall promotion.

Since his company is 15-years old this year, Universal Windows Direct CEO William Barr decided to put together a fun offer for customers who love Cleveland’s baseball team — or just wanted to gamble on free and discounted windows and see what happened.

The promotion went as such: anybody who bought windows during the month of July would get a rebate for their entire purchase if the Indians went on a 15-game win streak or longer any time after Aug. 1.

Barr’s thinking probably went something like “well, they went on a 13-game win streak last year so that’s a slim shot to happen again, and this is my business’ 15th year running, so this will be great marketing!” Great marketing yes, great for business remains to be seen.

Thankfully, Barr paid for a $75,000 insurance fee for the merchandise before the promotion got underway. So if he gets more business than that in the future based on the stunt marketing, then it’s well worth the gamble. I’m not a homeowner, but I’m assuming $75,000 is what it costs to get four or five windows. Seems easy enough!

UPDATE: They did it! With 15 straight wins, the Indians set a franchise record and that means Barr is going to have to start refunding a lot of window money to customers.
