Tonight at Strikeforce: Feijao vs. Henderson, former Olympian Dan Henderson will take part in the ninth tile bout of his career as he looks to take the Strikeforce light heavyweight title from Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante. Women’s 135lbs champion Marloes Coenen will also defend her title on the Showtime broadcast against Liz Carmouche. Former Army special forces soldier Tim Kennedy will face Dutch striker Melvin Manhoef and Jorge Masvidal will face Billy Evangelista in a lightweight tilt.

    ROUND 3 - Hard leg kick from Feijao starts the round. Henderson fires a monster right hand after two small leg kicks and Feijao is hurt badly. Henderson follows up with punches after putting the hooks in and just unloads. Feijao has no opportunity to even recover. Referee Dan Miragliotta stops the fight as Feijao is unable to respond.

    ROUND 2 - Leg kick for Henderson to start the round. Big left hook to the body lands for Henderson and the challenger is throwing huge punches. Fighters clinch against the fence and a failed single leg from Henderson goes nowhere. Dan Henderson shows incredible balance in landing on top from a trip takedown attempt. Feijao is able to reverse from half guard and working from Henderson’s full guard here. The referee re-starts the action. Head kick from Feijao misses. Henderson slowly closing the distance over and over trying to land a punch. Leg kick for Henderson. Body lock takedown for Henderson and lands in the half guard.

    The referee in charge of the action is Dan Miragliotta.

    ROUND 1 - Henderson immediately takes the center of the cage. Now Feijao moving him back, both fighters standing orthodox. Feijao lands a gigantic outside leg kick. Henderson looks like he’s head hunting with the right hand and eats another leg kick. Feijao fires back and drops Henderson. The Olympian recovers quickly and reverses Feijao as he charges in putting the champion on his back. Working now from full guard. The referee stands them up. Henderson charges in with the right, misses, and the fighters clinch. Henderson rips a body shot to Feijao’s middle. Feijao tries a knee tap takedown and it goes nowhere.

    Strikeforce Feijao Vs. Henderson Results: Marloes Coenen Gets Past Liz Carmouche After Several Tense Moments

    The referee in charge of the action is Greg Franklin.

    ROUND 1 - The fighters exchange leg kicks early, Coenen getting the best of them. Carmoche gets nailed with a counter right by Coenen as she attempts a leg kick. Carmouche appears to be jabbing up on the much taller Coenen. Same thing happens again as Carmouche attempts a leg kick. Overhand right from Coenen misses. Inside leg kick now from Coenen. Double underhooks for Carmouche as the fighters jockey on the fence. The referee separates them. Carmouche still having issues standing, but is flowing much more. Coenen lands two push kicks.

    Strikeforce Feijao Vs. Henderson Results: Roger Bowling Decisions Josh Thornburg

    Referee Dan Miragliotta officiated the action.

    In the first round. Bowling absolutely bludgeoned Thornburg. He lit the Strikeforce newcomer up with straight punches, kicks high and low. Thornburg was able to land a few shots of his own, but the majority of the work was all Bowling. Towards the end of the round Bowling lands a nice double leg takedown. He moved to Thornburg’s back and sank in the rear naked choke. Somehow Thornburg survived.

    Strikeforce Feijao Vs. Henderson Results: Jorge Gurgel Easily Chokes Out Billy Vaughan

    And that’s exactly what Gurgel did: make quick work of Vaughan to put himself back in Strikeforce’s good graces.

    According to multiple reports, Gurgel was able to lock up with Vaughan’s neck almost immediately. Vaughan right away recognized the trouble he was in and tried to fight out of it. Unfortunately, however, things only got worse as Gurgel jumped guard and deeply tightened the choke. From there Vaughan was forced to tap.

    Strikeforce Feijao Vs. Henderson Results: Jason Freeman Makes Jason Riley Tap To Strikes

    Yet, there really wasn’t much to this bout. Jason Freeman, who has competed in the past at light heavyweight, make very quick work of Jason Riley. According to multiple reports, things started and ended chaotically. Freeman came out firing kicks, but mostly missing his target. Riley, out of nowhere, lands a huge shot and drops Freeman to the canvas. Riley jumped on Freeman, but somehow Freeman was able to find a way back to his feet. Freeman looked very badly hurt and wobbled, but Riley assumed his opposition was finished when they weren’t. That’s when the tables turned. Freeman then dropped Riley to the canvas where he unloaded punches and hammerfists until the Riley actually tapped from strikes.

    Strikeforce Feijao Vs. Henderson Results: Marc Cofer Choked Out By Mike Whitesel

    It turned out, however, that the veteran experience of Whitesel was enough to get the win.

    With referee Dan Miragliotta at the helm, the two fighters opened the round trading punches, but soon clinched along the fence. The fighters eventually separated, but only then did Cofer over commit on a punch that allowed Whitesel to close the distance. From there the journeyman was able to land an easy takedown on top. He tried to no avail to throw strikes from there, but as Cofer scrambled Whitesel was able to secure a modified sitting guillotine. Apparently it worked as Cofer was forced to tap.

    Strikeforce Feijao Vs. Henderson Results: John Kuhner Triangles J.P. Felty

    It didn’t look good for Kuhner early. In the first round, which MMA Fighting scored has a 10-9 round for Felty. While Kuhner was winning the striking battle, he was taken down three times. Felty landed enough damage along the way to convincingly take the round. Kuhner was en route to his third straight loss.

    But things changed in the second round. At first Kuhner looked good, taking Felty’s back and almost landing a choke. He made several clean attempts at it, but simply couldn’t find the sweet spot. Kuhner eventually rolled to mount. From there he was able to do a sit-in triangle and roll off of his own base to secure the choke. The referee didn’t see it until Felly was already out, giving Kuhner his first professional mixed martial arts win.
