Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) continues its steady drumbeat of fight announcements, revealing recently that light heavyweights Brandon Vera and Eliot Marshall have agreed to face off inside the Octagon.
UFC 137 Fight Card: Brandon Vera Vs. Eliot Marshall Fight Planned For Oct. 29
The 205-pound showdown is booked for UFC 137: “St. Pierre vs. Diaz,” which is scheduled for the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Oct. 29, 2011.
It will mark Vera's first fight inside the eight-walled cage since he was cut from the promotion following a unanimous decision loss to Thiago Silva at UFC 125 earlier this year -- his third straight defeat. However, Silva tested positive for steroids after the bout, which was later ruled a "No Contest," compelling UFC President Dana White to give "The Truth" another (fair) shot at redemption.
Despite winning three of four fights inside the Octagon, Marshall was released after a split decision loss to Vladimir Matyushenko in March of 2010. "The Fire" returned only to get got pounded out by Luiz Cane in the first round of their fight at UFC 128, snapping a three-fight win streak (outside the UFC).
UFC 137 will feature a "super" main event between UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre and Strikeforce 170-pound kingpin, Nick Diaz. B.J. Penn vs. Carlos Condit will collide in the co-featured fight tof the night, possibly to determine who will fight the winner of the championship bout next.
