NASCAR Team Owner Rick Hendrick, Wife Escape Serious Injury After Plane Accident In Florida

All four passengers transported to local hospital after plane runs off end of Key West runway due to braking issues.

Hendrick Motorsports team owner Rick Hendrick and his wife, Linda, were among four people who escaped serious injury Monday night after the plane they were riding in ran off the end of the runway upon landing in Key West, Fla.

A statement released by the team said a Gulfstream G150 airplane operated by HMS had “braking issues” upon landing. Hendrick, his wife and the two pilots were all taken to a local hospital for evaluation.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said two people were transported for “minor injuries” and two were transported for “precautionary reasons.”

The team said it is currently gathering more information on the incident, which occurred at approximately 7:45 p.m. Eastern time.

A blog on the sheriff’s office web site said the plane was registered to Jimmie Johnson Racing II Inc. and had the tail number N480JJ.

The sheriff’s office blog also had this picture of the plane with a firefighter attending to the damage:

Airplane issues are particularly sensitive when discussing Hendrick Motorsports. In October 2004, a Hendrick plane carrying the team owner’s son, brother, two nieces and six others crashed into the side of a mountain near Martinsville, Va.

We’ll obviously keep you posted with further details on this story as they are released.
