Kyle Busch says he wasn’t sick to his stomach during Sunday’s race at Michigan International Speedway, but rather was plagued by chest pains and breathing issues.
Kyle Busch Had Breathing Issues During Michigan International Speedway NASCAR Race
“I don’t know what it was,” he said after finishing third and leading 59 laps. “Just a center chest pain I had early in the race. It was really hard to breathe. Couldn’t tell you what it was – I’ve never felt that before.”
Busch said after his team gave him some “special sauce” – which was reportedly something an antacid – during one pit stop, the driver was good to go.
The Joe Gibbs Racing driver, though, said he was never close to removing himself from the car for standby driver Scott Riggs.
“I didn’t feel that bad,” he said. “It was just hard to breathe. I had to take real short breaths. Felt like I was running a 400-mile marathon, which essentially I was. But I felt like I was running on my feet instead of in a race car.”
