Martin Truex Jr. wasn’t the only driver to leave Bristol Motor Speedway with a hand injury.
Denny Hamlin injures right hand in crash at Bristol
In the same accident that Martin Truex Jr. fractured his wrist at Bristol, Denny Hamlin also sustained an injury to his hand.

In an interview on Sirius XM Radio Thursday, Denny Hamlin disclosed he injured his right hand ironically in the same Lap 448 crash that Truex fractured his right wrist.
Hamlin’s injury is not as serious as Truex’s, who will be forced to race with a cast this weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway, but Hamlin is wearing a splint on his thumb which is black and blue.
“I couldn’t get my finger out of the wheel quick enough before it spun and obviously, took some ligaments with it,” Hamlin told host Claire B. Lang.
Unlike Truex, Hamlin’s injury is expected to heal rather quickly -- within a week or two -- but he did say it will affect how he grips the steering wheel.
This is the second time this season for Hamlin has been hurt. In a last lap crash in March at Auto Club Speedway he sustained a broken bone in his back, which sidelined him for four races.
“I feel this pain,” Hamlin said. “It’s going to be tough. I tested on Monday and Tuesday at Chicago and I couldn’t put my thumb on the wheel.”
