Dwyane Wade is still smokin’ hot from the field at Madison Square Garden, but selfish basketball has the Miami Heat reeling. In the force quarter, the Miami offense has consisted of four guys watching the ball and one — either LeBron James or Wade — working his man one-on-one. At times that’s fine, but it hasn’t been working at all.
Dwyane Wade On Fire But Miami Struggling With Selfishness
The result of the one-on-one bonanza has been a bevy of contested shots, many of which haven’t even come close. After Wade hit the backboard and nothing else on the Heat’s last possession, head coach Erik Spoelstra had seen enough, calling a timeout after Danilo Gallinari hit a huge three on the other end with the shot clock winding down.
The difference between the two teams in the fourth quarter has been striking. The Knicks are moving the ball well, finding the open man for a quality look. Miami, on the other hand, is throwing up contested shots early in the shot clock. How bad is it? For the night, James is 4-21, hitting only from point-blank range. Yet there he is, still firing away, putting up enough bricks to build a house.
With five minutes to go, the Knicks have climbed all the way back and lead the Heat, 77-76.
