Dwyane Wade had about as good a night as you can have on Thursday night at Madison Square Garden, but couldn’t walk away with a win. Playing with a migraine -- and the coolest shades this side of Horace Grant -- Wade had 34 points and a 16 rebounds, but the Miami Heat fell flat down the stretch. In the fourth quarter, the Heat settled for poor, contested shots early in the shot clock as the New York Knicks put together a run created with crisp ball movement to create wide-open looks.
Heat Vs. Knicks Final Score: Dwyane Wade Not Enough As New York Wins, 93-88
That strong fourth quarter, in which the Knicks outscored the Heat 29-15, allowed New York to come from behind and pull out a 93-88 win. Of course, it wouldn’t be complete without a few big shots down the stretch, provided by Danilo Gallinari and Landry Fields. The two connected from deep on back-to-back possessions, turning a one-point deficit into a five-point lead with just over a minute to go.
The Heat had a look with under 30 seconds to go as LeBron James drove to the bucket and dished to a wide-open Mario Chalmers, but Chalmers’ three rimmed off, allowing the Knicks to seal it at the line. It was a stunning turn of events after the Heat looked to be in complete control through the first three quarters with Wade putting on a show.
James finished the game with 24 points, but did it on 7-24 shooting from the field. James Jones added 15 points, but was the only other Miami player in double-figures. The Heat got no help from the bench, with Joel Anthony only scoring eight points in 35 minutes.
Amare Stoudemire led the way for the Knicks with 24 points and eight rebounds. Gallinari added 20, including more than one clutch three in the fourth. Fields had 19 points and 13 rebounds with Shawne Williams adding 11 off the bench.
Miami fell to 31-14 with the loss. The Heat now hold just a 1.5 game lead of the Orlando Magic in the Southeast division. The Knicks improved to 24-21, but sit 10.5 games games behind the Boston Celtics in the Atlantic division.
