After Rajon Rondo’s Injury, Doc Rivers Defends Dwyane Wade

Some fans see the play involving Dwyane Wade that produced Rajon Rondo's injury as having sinister undertones, but Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers doesn't think the Miami Heat star was trying to hurt anybody. Commenting the day after the gruesome dislocated elbow incident, Rivers said:

It was a hard foul. Let’s put it like this. He didn’t intend to hurt Rondo. I don’t honestly believe in 99 percent of cases in our league the player ever intends to hurt anybody. But he did and it just happens.

So don’t count Doc among those who see evidence of a cruel leg sweep in the peculiar thrusting motion Wade made as he went to the floor with Rondo. Rivers also praised his point guard’s toughness in returning to the court despite nearly seeing his entire arm snapped off, no big deal.
