In news that is sure to strike a blow to the Utah Jazz's playoff hopes, forward Josh Howard is expected to miss the rest of the season with a left knee injury, radio broadcaster David Locke reported on Tuesday. Howard will undergo season-ending surgery later this week.

Utah Jazz forward Josh Howard will undergo season-ending surgery on his left knee later this week.

Howard was a key rotation player for the Jazz, who are currently a half-game behind the Houston Rockets for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference. On the season, he averaged 8.7 points and 3.7 rebounds as an occasional starter and bench player.
Howard has dealt with significant injury problems ever since tearing the ACL in the same left knee back in February 2010, right after a midseason trade to the Washington Wizards. The Wizards signed him last year, but he only played in 18 games as he recovered. He had been relatively healthy for the Jazz after signing a one-year deal in December prior to this injury.
