Amar’e Stoudemire Injury Update: Knicks’ Forward Says He’s Doubtful For Sunday’s Game 4

Amar'e Stoudemire said Friday that he is still doubtful for Game 4 of the New York Knicks' first round series of the 2012 NBA Playoffs against the Miami Heat on Sunday night. Stoudemire contradicted a statement earlier in the day from head coach Mike Woodson, who indicated that the forward would likely be available after missing Game 3 with a hand laceration suffered when he punched the glass casing around a fire extinguisher after Monday's loss.

Stoudemire gave more details about the injury Friday, saying that the cut came within a “millimeter” of severing a nerve. The cut could have done permanent damage to the hand, and Stoudemire said he is “blessed” that it didn’t. He also addressed the criticism he has taken in the media lately for his aggressive outburst after the Game 2 loss.

“Everybody’s going to have their own opinion,” Stoudemire said. “That’s freedom of speech so I can’t get upset with the amendment. My job is to stay focused on the task at hand. My teammates understand the situation. Most athletes around the world understand what happens. It happens every day in sports.

“But again, my family stuck with me, my friends and teammates stuck with me so hopefully I’ll be ready for Sunday.”
