Stoudemire gave more details about the injury Friday, saying that the cut came within a “millimeter” of severing a nerve. The cut could have done permanent damage to the hand, and Stoudemire said he is “blessed” that it didn’t. Stoudemire suffered a left hand laceration punching a American Airlines Arena fire extinguisher after the Knicks’ 104-94 loss in Game 2. His hand was bloodied after he punched the glass, and paramedics were called to the scene. Stoudemire then had minor hand surgery to repair the wound and sat out Thursday’s Game 3. At the time, it looked like his return for the rest of the series was doubtful, but it appears he may try to play through the pain.

Stoudemire required immediate medical attention for a laceration on his hand and the injury was serious enough to warrant surgery on Tuesday. All indications were that Stoudemire would be out for the remainder of the series. Stoudemire, however, is remaining optimistic.
Al Iannazzone of New York Newsday reported on Wednesday that Stoudemire thinks there is a “great chance” that he will be able to play in Game 4 on Sunday, which will be at Madison Square Garden.

Amar’e Stoudemire Injury Status: Knicks’ Forward Doubtful To Return For Series Vs. Heat, According To Report
The news doesn’t come as much of a shock, considering what was being reported after the incident. Stoudemire was seen leaving American Airlines Arena with his arm in a sling and his hand heavily bandaged. The forward refused to speak to media afterwards, but took to Twitter early Tuesday morning to apologize to fans.
The Knicks are looking to snap a 12-game playoff losing streak extending back to the 2000-01 season. Game 3 will tip off Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. ET at Madison Square Garden.

Stoudemire’s status for the rest of the series remains up in the air. Isola reports that Stoudemire will see a specialist on Tuesday to determine if there is any ligament damage. Meanwhile, an ESPN New York report suggests there is a “possibility” Stoudemire will not play the rest of the series.
