Larry Sanders reportedly under investigation for bar fight, out with thumb injury

Milwaukee Bucks big man Larry Sanders will miss Wednesday’s game against Cleveland with an injury, but he is reportedly under investigation for a bar fight.

Coach Larry Drew told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel's Charles F. Gardner that Milwaukee Bucks center Larry Sanders will miss Wednesday's game against the Cleveland Cavaliers with a thumb injury, but he also admitted the big man is under investigation for an unspecified off-court incident.

According to the Racine Journal Times’ Gery Woelfel, that incident is a bar fight.

“We are aware of an incident from Saturday evening,” the Bucks said in a release. “The matter is under investigation and Larry Sanders is cooperating fully. At this time we will have no further comment.”

Brew Hoop: More on the Bucks

Off-the-court issues surely won’t help Sanders’ cause on it. Sanders expressed frustration over his role early on this year under Drew, the first-year Bucks coach. After signing a four-year, $44 million contract extension this summer, Sanders’ role has been reduced and he has struggled while playing just 17.3 minutes per game.

He has averaged 2.7 points, 3.7 rebounds and two blocks per game so far this season, and earlier in the week told NBA.com’s Steve Aschburner that he wanted to play more crunch-time minutes.

Sanders had a breakout year in 2012-13 by averaging 9.8 points, 9.5 rebounds and an NBA-leading 2.8 blocks per game.
