Lionel Hollins to meet with Nuggets on Saturday, according to report
Outgoing Memphis Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins will interview with the Denver Nuggets, who fired coach George Karl last week.
The Nuggets fired coach George Karl last week after he led the team to nine consecutive playoff berths, but only one run that went past the first round. Ironically enough, Karl is considered a candidate for the opening that Hollins leaves in Memphis, making the possibility for an essential trade of head coaches.
Meanwhile, Hollins has received permission to speak with other teams with head coaching vacancies after Memphis told him earlier this week it wouldn't be offering a contract extension. Hollins' contract ends at the end of June, but the Grizzlies are already deep into searching for a replacement. CBS Sports' Ken Berger reported on Wednesday that Memphis was considering current assistant Dave Joerger, Bulls assistant Ed Pinckney, former Suns coach Alvin Gentry along with Karl.
Hollins led the Grizzlies to their most successful season in 2012-13, but got swept at the hands of the San Antonio Spurs in the Western Conference Finals. His departure, however, was more likely due to his lacking relationship with new management and ownership in Memphis.
