Nuggets coaching search: Denver reportedly focused on Lionel Hollins, Brian Shaw

The Denver Nuggets won’t look into other candidates unless they fail to hire one of either Lionel Hollins or Brian Shaw.

Grizzlies head coach Lionel Hollins and Pacers assistant Brian Shaw are the targets, and now it's up to the Denver Nuggets to get their next head coach. Hollins, whose contract will expire after June 30, and Shaw are the two leading candidates to land the opening vacated by George Karl's firing, Yahoo! Sports' Marc J. Spears reports.

That means no other coaches will be targeted by Denver unless it fails to land either Hollins or Shaw. Alvin Gentry, the former Phoenix Suns head coach, is reportedly on a longer list that won't be tapped unless Denver whiffs on the two leaders.

The Nuggets aren't the only ones after Hollins and Shaw even though they lost a competitor in a summer full of head coaching moves when the Brooklyn Nets decided to hire recently-retired Jason Kidd as their new coach -- just hours after Shaw interview with the team, no less.

The Los Angeles Clippers appear to be the biggest competitor for the services of either Hollins or Shaw. Shaw already interviewed with the Clippers, and the Los Angeles Times reported on Wednesday that Hollins will speak with the team on Thursday and Friday.
