An incredible tweet from Andrew Spena changed basketball Twitter, Star Wars Twitter, pop culture Twitter, and Jurassic Park Twitter on Wednesday. The tweet included photos from Us Weekly — not a source we usually cite ‘round here — of actress Laura Dern, best known as Dr. Ellie Sattler from the original Jurassic Park trilogy and Admiral Holdo from the new The Last Jedi, and Baron Davis, of the We Believe! Warriors, canoodling after a date.
Baron Davis + Laura Dern: This changes everything
We have that and more in Thursday’s NBA newsletter.

This is a fever dream power couple that really captured the whimsy so many of us love in our pop culture. As The Ringer notes, this reads like fan fiction.
Davis has been talking about attempting an NBA comeback lately, and actually played in the D-League last year. I was skeptical ... until now. All things are now possible in this brave new world. Hey, after a career of serious, arty films, Dern just introduced herself to a new generation of fans of an action blockbuster property. Anything is possible!
We need a celeb power couple name for these two, though. Our options include: Baura Dernvis, Lauron Dernvis, and B-Derny. But I think we need to go with Boom Dernzle to really maximize awareness and appreciation.
2017: perhaps not so bad after all.

Awesome, comprehensive piece by Howard Beck on Becky Bonner and the women poised to run NBA teams in the near future. Shout out to New Hampshire.
Holy smokes! Rajon Rondo had 25 assists! That’s the most in an NBA game in more than two decades. (The record is 30. Rondo definitely wants to break that record.)
Holy smokes! Vince Carter outscored LeBron James for the first time in 10 years as the Kings beat the Cavaliers! Half Old Man, Half Amazing!
Wow! The Bulls keep winning! They are only six games out of the playoffs after going 8-2 in their last 10.
(Yes, we’re filled with a certain amount of wonder today.)
All of Nike’s City Edition jerseys have been released. We ranked them. I agree the Sixers’ jerseys are lovely, and I’m into the Hornets’ and Warriors’ offerings as well. As I wrote about the Jazz’s sunset uniforms last week, some of these will look a lot worse on actual bodies, in actual action. We’ll find out soon enough. Anyway, here are the stories behind all of the designs — some of them are really cool, except for the Lakers’, because seriously?!
Reggie Jackson is out a while. Bummer.
I wrote about tensions between players, referees, and the league, and the issue at the core of it all.
Nathaniel Friedman on the triumphant year of LaVar Ball.
The case for the Warriors’ next arena — the Chase Center in San Francisco — as a key piece of the team’s dynasty.
We have a doozy of an early game on TNT: Rockets at Celtics 8 p.m. ET. That’s followed by Sixers at Blazers at 10:30.
Be excellent to each other.
