9 best moments from the 2017 NBA draft

LOTS and LOTS of LaVar Ball.

The 2017 NBA draft is over, and for the most part, things went according to script. Markelle Fultz went No. 1, Lonzo Ball followed to the Lakers after, and only Malik Monk slightly fell out of where he was expected at No. 11 to the Hornets. The biggest shake-up sent Jimmy Butler to the Timberwolves for a weak return with Zach LaVine, Kris Dunn, and Lauri Markkanen.

Social media carried the thunder the Bulls trade started early in the night with a real “oops” of a Fultz Instagram, Joel Embiid continuing to be great at life, and plenty of old tweets from draftees who should’ve just called Charlotte Wilder. Oh, and lots of LaVar Ball happened.

Here are the best moments from Thursday night’s draft:

LaVar Ball kicked off the night saying Jesus and Zeus told him his son Lonzo would be a Laker:

The draft kicked off with peak LaVar action.

De’Aaron Fox wore a suit dedicated to his mom, a breast cancer survivor:

This was really nice!

Joel Embiid is already going after Lonzo Ball!

Oh my goodness, Joel (and Ben). Is this just the beginning of how we’ll see players treat Ball?

This guy on Twitter somehow knew Lonzo Ball would be taken by the Lakers FOUR YEARS AGO:

MAGIC.

LaVar Ball guaranteed his son would take the Lakers to the playoffs next year:

This is a calm take from him.

Markelle Fultz needs a social media team:

After Fultz was drafted, someone forgot to fill in the blanks on his Instagram.

Come on, [player name], you knew where he was going all along!

LaVar Ball was booed on his way out of Barclays, and he tossed his Big Ballers hat to the fans:

You knew something was going to happen between the fans and the Ball family.

Jimmy Butler’s trainer went off on Twitter about how poorly the Bulls are run:

Ouch, it didn’t take long after Butler was dealt for this to happen.

Fans announced draft picks before the deputy commissioner:

Dang, Twitter. You ruin everything.
