Say what you want about the little school from the islands out here and maybe they have been a bit of a joke in the past, but tonight, they’re certainly playing like they’re for real.
Michigan State Vs. Chaminade: Tied At Half
The Chaminade Silverswords came to play tonight and the fact that they’re tied 39-39 with the No. 2 team in the country at halftime is all the evidence you need of that.
Tom Izzo is going to lay into his team at the break and you can bet they’ll come out with some fire in the second half.
As of now, only Kalin Lucas (14 points, 1 assist) has looked like himself. The rest of the Spartans have looked tentative and indecisive.
The Silverswords won the rebounding battle in the first half, 14-10 and that is just unacceptable from a Michigan State team that prides itself on its rebounding ability.
Chaminade has been led by point guard Steven Bennett, who finished the half with 13 points and 4 assists. DeAndre Haskins chipped in with 11 points, 2 assists and 2 steals, while Mamadou Diarra held his own inside, putting in 8 points while grabbing 5 rebounds and adding 2 blocks.
Both teams shot incredibly well in the first half. Michigan State shot 53.3 percent from the field, and the Silverswords hit 56 percent of their shots from the field.
Chaminade has a chance to stay in this game if they continue to be as solid as they were in the opening half.
