The No. 2 Michigan State Spartans got an unexpected stiff test from the Chaminade Silverswords tonight as they eked out a 82-74 win in the opening round of the 2010 EA Sports Maui Invitational.

While Michigan State showed how well they can play with its back against the wall, but anyone who watched the game tonight came away impressed with the Silverswords.
For the Spartans, Kalin Lucas has showed that he’s obviously healthy. Lucas finished the night with 28 points on 11-of-20 shooting from the field. Draymond Green pitched in with 10 points and 9 rebounds and Korie Lucious scored 13 points.
For the Silverswords, four players finished in double figures. Steven Bennett led the way with 20 points and 11 assists, while Mamadou Diarra added 16 points and 12 rebounds. Shane Hanson nailed 5 three-pointers to finish with 15 points and DeAndre Haskins finished with 11.
Despite being out-rebounded 31-28, the Spartans turned up the defense in the second half as they forced 16 turnovers.
The Spartans will face UConn tomorrow at 7 p.m. eastern on ESPN.
