Matt Painter Remains Purdue Basketball Coach After Missouri Meeting
Painter, in a statement released by the school to announce his re-signing, plays up the new facilities he’ll have to work with in the future. The amount of resources allocated by the school to the athletic program was thought to be a point of contention late in the process:
The courting of Painter by both Missouri and Purdue made for perhaps the second-most confounding coaching juggle of the offseason, both of which involved Mizzou. Anderson was reported to be just about to sign with either Arkansas or Missouri for several days, and the Painter story was pretty much just as complicated.

Purdue has publicly made a pitch to keep Painter, enlisting the Board of Trustees and various other important individuals in an effort to keep the basketball coach in Indiana. That might have been a good idea, as what appears to some to be a sideways or even backwards move could be more about resources than anything else, though Mizzou’s reported salary offer is significantly higher than Purdue’s.
To that end, Purdue’s associate athletic director has chastised boosters for not donating enough money to keep Painter. Sounds like a hoot!

According to reports, Purdue head coach Matt Painter has not accepted the head coaching position at Missouri although the school is continuing to pursue him.
Rumors persisted this afternoon with a Fort Wayne Sentinel reporter saying that he was “hearing” that Painter had left Purdue and had accepted the Missouri job. However, there was never a follow-up from him or on the paper’s website.

After plenty of speculation and very strong rumors, the Arkansas Razorbacks have confirmed the hiring of Mike Anderson as the new head coach of their men’s basketball team. Anderson has spent the last five seasons as the coach of the Missouri Tigers, leading that team to the NCAA tournament this season, where they lost in the first round. Last year, Anderson lead Missouri to a first round win over Clemson.

Don’t expect a decision to come in the very immediate future, however, as Anderson is reportedly busy Tuesday with the funeral of a longtime friend.

Pelphrey was 69-59 in that time, including an 18-13 record this season. Arkansas lost to Tennessee in the opening round of the SEC tournament on Thursday, the third straight first-round exit for the school.
