According to reports, Purdue head coach Matt Painter has not accepted the head coaching position at Missouri although the school is continuing to pursue him.
Matt Painter Not Missouri Basketball Coach Yet, Despite Reports
Rumors persisted this afternoon with a Fort Wayne Sentinel reporter saying that he was “hearing” that Painter had left Purdue and had accepted the Missouri job. However, there was never a follow-up from him or on the paper’s website.
Then New York Daily News writer Dick Weiss reported that Painter was set to accept a seven year $14 million dollar contract from Missouri which was similar to the extension that was offered to former coach Mike Anderson before he left to take the Arkansas job. Weiss later backed off his report saying that Painter’s agent and the Missouri AD would meet again tomorrow.
Indianapolis Star reporter Jeff Rabjohns confirmed that there is no deal as of yet between Painter and Missouri but that both sides would sit down and meet face to face to discuss the vacancy. Painter’s salary package at Purdue is worth around $1.3 million a year which places him in the bottom half of the Big 10.
