The Huskers have jumped out to an early lead at home in Lincoln, on their very first play from scrimmage. After kicking a touchback to open the game, the Blackshirts force a three-and-out from Missouri that took a leisurely 54 seconds to complete. All three offensive plays are given to Blaine Gabbert, and all three prove fruitless. He attempts a rush right for no gain, throws an incomplete pass to the left, and one to the right. Matt Grabner's punt is returned by Rex Burkhead for four yards to the Nebraska 34 -- and on the Husker's first offensive play, Roy Helu runs left and ran loose for a 66-yard touchdown.
Another rapid Tigers' three-and-out follows, this one also lasting less than a minute, and now it's Taylor Martinez's turn. He hits Brandon Kinnie for a 13-yard gain, Niles Paul for a 21-yard gain, and with three more rushes and some additional help from Roy Helu, the Huskers are held to a 41-yard field goal.
With 10:25 remaining in the first quarter, Nebraska leads Missouri, 10-0.
