College Football Rankings: With Alabama’s Loss, BlogPoll Top 25 Will Have A Different Team Up Top

With South Carolina upsetting No. 1 Alabama, we’ll surely have a new No. 1 team in both the AP and Coaches Poll when the new college football rankings are released on Sunday. But we’ll also have a new No. 1 in the College Football BlogPoll on Wednesday ... and the results could be quite different than in the other two polls.

Consider: In this past week’s BlogPoll, Oregon got two first-place votes, Ohio State got one, and Boise State got none. That’s nearly opposite of the AP poll last week, when the Ducks got no first place votes and Boise and the Buckeyes did.

Alabama had dominated the BlogPoll like none other; those votes surely won’t all leave the Crimson Tide, but most of them will. It will be interesting to see what the bloggers do with their first place votes. ... and how far Alabama slips.

There’s certainly precedent for the BlogPoll disagreeing with the voters in the AP and coaches polls. Last season, the coaches and scribes stuck with Florida as the No. 1 team for most of the season (Alabama spent two weeks atop the AP poll before the title game); the bloggers, meanwhile, flipped back and forth with Alabama and Florida in the top spot.
