Our ping-pong game has come to an end, thanks to an excessive celebration penalty and LSU’s offense playing well. I suppose stranger things have happened.
LSU Vs. Mississippi: Stevan Ridley’s Late Touchdown Gives Tigers 43-36 Win
Stevan Ridley punched in a touchdown for the Tigers, followed by a two-point conversion by Jordan Jefferson — the first of the second half after five combined attempts by both teams — to give LSU a 43-36 lead. And thanks to a bit of luck and close calls breaking their way on Mississippi’s last drive, the Bayou Bengals held on to win by that margin.
First, Mississippi kick returner Jeff Scott bobbled the ball, then brought it out from deep in the end zone, running precious seconds off the clock for very little benefit. Then, a long pass from Jeremiah Masoli fell to the ground a foot in front of Rebels receiver Korvic Neat, forcing an 80-yard Hail Mary from Masoli on the game’s final play. Patrick Peterson — who else? — picked that pass off to seal LSU’s win.
For the Tigers, this win brings a BCS at-large bid that much closer; with a win next week against Arkansas, LSU could well end up in the Sugar Bowl in January.
And for all of us, the chaos of the annual meeting of the Right Reverend Houston Nutt and Les “Mad Hatter” Miles has blessedly passed with no apparent casualties. Well, other than the brains of any individuals who thought LSU’s offense was terrible and their defense tremendous. Those folks’ cerebral cortexes were liquefied sometime during the third quarter.
