Iron Bowl 2010: Weather May Play A Factor In Auburn-Alabama

We’re now about one hour away from the 2010 Iron Bowl, when Auburn, No. 2 in the BCS Standings, travels to Tuscaloosa to take on No. 11 Alabama. The Crimson Tide are four-point favorites over the Tigers in what will be the 75th meeting between the two schools (Alabama leads the all-time series 40-33-1 and has won the past two Iron Bowls after dropping six straight to Auburn).

In addition to generations of history as well as over 100,000 fans packed into Bryant-Denny Stadium (where ‘Bama has won 20 straight games overall), both sides may find themselves dealing with weather fit for a rivalry weekend. Per our Auburn blog, Track ‘Em Tigers:

Conditions could be problematic for both teams. There was quite a bit of rain locally last night, and Bryant Denny does not always drain well. We had over an inch where I live, but the Tuscaloosa airport is reporting only 0.39 inches. It’s cold today, sitting at only 42 degrees at noon. With a heavy cloud cover, it’s unlikely to rise any more over that. The wind will pick up during the game, and it may drop into the mid 30s before its over.

Currently it feels like 40 degrees in Alabama, with as much of a 60% chance of precipitation by 5 P.M. ET, and temperatures dropping into the upper-30s in the fourth quarter.

Auburn and Alabama kick-off at 2:30 P.M. ET and will be shown on CBS. Read more at our team blogs, Track ‘Em Tigers and Roll Bama Roll.
