Auburn gets another Alabama three-and-out from their much-maligned defense, with Trent Richardson making a brief appearance for the Tide. The delightfully-named Quindarius Carr is in a sharing mood, however, and fumbles the punt return right back.
Julio Jones gets 20 positive yards on two plays, but an incomplete pass, a 5-yard penalty, and a sack on Greg McElroy by another perennial all-namer, Eltoro Freeman, holds Bama to a 33-yard Jeremy Shelley field goal. Auburn converts its first set of downs in two plays and is driving near midfield as the third quarter draws to a close.
Three minutes later, the Tigers are back in the endzone. Cam Newton lobs a 7-yard touchdown pass at Philip Lutzenkirchen, and sportswriters across America scramble to spell "Lutzenkirchen." With 12:15 remaining to play in the 2010 Iron Bowl, Auburn has its first lead of the game, 28-27.
