The second half of the 2010 Iron Bowl is off to a rip-roaring start in Tuscaloosa. Cam Newton is brought down behind the line of scrimmage on first down, but hits Terrell Zachery for a 70-yard touchdown pass on the second play of the half to cut Alabama's lead to ten points.
The Tide, for their part, get absolutely nowhere on their answering drive, taking three minutes off the clock but going a bare ten yards. We're settling down to what looks more and more like a traditional SEC game here, as defenses adjust and offenses batter themselves senseless against them. Auburn barely lasts a minute and a half on their next series, and horror of horrors, Alabama actually goes three-and-out.
Iron Bowl 2010: Auburn Answering Fast, Cut Tide Lead To 24-21
And here come the Tigers. Onterio McCalebb provides the bulk of the yardage as Auburn mounts a three-minute, 75-yard scoring drive that ends with Newton shouldering his way handily through a goal-line pile. With 4:45 remaining in the third quarter, the Crimson Tide lead the Tigers, 24-21. Buckle up, sports fans; this is nowhere near over.
