If you’re looking in the box score for how Stanford won this game, it’s going to be easy enough to find: The Cardinal outgained Arizona, had one more first down and one fewer turnover. But if you’re looking for how Stanford thrashed the Wildcats, it’s not really there; the Wildcats still gained 428 yards for the game.

But Stanford’s defense held the Wildcats to less than 200 yards early as the Cardinal rang up a 28-3 lead. After that, Stanford was largely able to coast, scoring enough to finish with a 42-17 win.
Andrew Luck was 23-of-32 for 293 yards and 2 TDs. Chris Owusu was on the receiving end of many of those passes, grabbing 9 receptions for 165 yards. Stepfan Taylor and Anthony Wilkerson combined to rush for 163 yards and 4 TDs on 29 carries, part of a running attack that rang up 217 yards.
For Arizona, Nick Foles was 28-of-48 for 248 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Keola Antolin rushed for 86 yards on 16 carries. Juron Criner caught nine receptions for 98 yards and a touchdown.
The increases Stanford’s odds of getting an at-large BCS berth, especially will all the other carnage among one-loss teams Saturday. With trips to Arizona State and California and a home game against Oklahoma State left on the schedule, the Cardinal should be favored to run its record all the way to 11-1.
