2011 Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl, Nevada Vs. Boston College: Eagles Hanging With It Early, 7-7
The inaugural Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl (known colloquially on the internet as the Kraft Macaroni And Hunger Bowl, because why not) was billed by all but its organizers as a gross mismatch, with the 7-5 Boston College Eagles edging into bowl eligibility pitted against a 12-1 Nevada team only here because they had the temerity to both lose to Hawaii by six points and knock off then-No. 4 Boise State in the year’s most thrilling overtime contest.
Tonight’s actual playing of the football has done away with that particular notion, at least in the first quarter or so. The Wolf Pack is stopped just short of midfield on their first possession; they force an Eagles three-and-out to follow, but star quarterback Colin Kaepernick fumbles on the ensuing series to set up a 30-yard touchdown run by BC’s Andre Williams. The ‘Pack gets it right on their next possession; Kaepernick hits Rishard Matthews with a 27-yard scoring pass and we’re all tied up.
After less than a quarter of football, wonder of wonders, we’ve got a game on our hands. With 3:40 remaining in the first quarter, Boston College and Nevada are tied, 7-7.
