The Cowboys and Sooners remain on an undefeated Big 12 collision course.
VIDEO: Brandon Weeden Takes Smartest Safety Ever, May Remember Every Safety Ever
Weeden, who is
96928 years old, actually made a rather smart play by accident: his safety on this play prevented the pick-six Texas got on his throw, meaning that Texas would be 12 points back rather than eight. And considering that the final margin in the game was 12 points, with the safety ending up as the final scoring play, well, Weeden may have saved Oklahoma State by accident.

Well, after a wild third quarter, things calmed down for Oklahoma State and Texas. In fact, the only points scored in the fourth quarter came from a safety by Oklahoma State. That didn’t change the outcome of anything, other than perhaps giving Texas a little bit more respectable loss of 12 points rather than 14; the Cowboys still own, 38-26.
Still, it’s only the second-worst game by Texas against a team whose name starts with “Oklahoma.” So that’s progress. Oklahoma State, meanwhile, seems to be on a collision course for a rather large game on Dec. 3 with that other Oklahoma team.

It wasn’t just a tighter-than-expected first half; we actually appear to have a game in Austin. Or maybe not.
Oklahoma State kicked off the second half with a 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. (Pardon the pun.) Texas responded with its own 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown -- on the next play -- getting back to an 11-point deficit.

After Texas got thoroughly blown to smithereens by Oklahoma last week, many expected Oklahoma State to be able to similarly destroy the Longhorns this Saturday. And the Cowboys do have a comfortable lead, but just that, ahead 21-10 going into halftime.

The Longhorns answered back in the second quarter when running back Malcolm Brown found his way into the end zone on a 15-yard run. The Longhorns originally were forced to punt on fourth-and-28, but when an Oklahoma State upback touched the ball, the Longhorns recovered and Brown did the rest.
This game may get interesting now as the Cowboys seem to be giving the Longhorns every opportunity to pull off the upset.

Getty ImagesIt doesn’t sound like the Cowboys are worried much about the Longhorns offense, which is the only way Texas can have a hope to stay in the game.

Getty ImagesAs a whole, however, Oklahoma State’s performance indeed has more to do with garbage time than the quality of the offenses they’ve faced. To be sure, quality has had a slight role to play -- Texas A&M ranks 12th in Off. S&P+, Arizona 26th and Tulsa 37th -- but Oklahoma has benefited most from taking care of business and putting the game out of reach in little time.
Let’s walk through the numbers a bit. We’ll stick with general per-play numbers (instead of my preferred S&P) because it’s a bit more universal in terms of who does or doesn’t understand it.
