The Houston Cougars need a new head coach, but it's not like the loss of Kevin Sumlin came as a great surprise. He's been the supposed next Texas A&M Aggies head coach for more than a week now, and UH has known all along he's been a name on the rise.

As for the current staff, athletic director Mack Rhoades won't say whether Sumlin will take any coaches along to College Station. Assistant Tony Levine will remain through the team's TicketCity Bowl appearance against the Penn St. Nittany Lions, but he hasn't made any promises beyond that.
Departures by Sumlin and Case Keenum are going to make for a very different Coogs program next year, but, as Rhoades himself made clear, the operation is in better condition now than it was when Sumlin took over.
