Former New Mexico head coach Mike Locksley is reportedly heading to Maryland, taking over an offensive coordinator position vacated by Gary Crowton on Wednesday. Multiple reports on Wednesday indicated Crowton would not return next season after a disappointing campaign this past year.
Mike Locksley Hired As Maryland Offensive Coordinator, According To Report
Locksley’s story is well known by now. His time at New Mexico was marred by strange off-field incidents. With an overall record of 2-26, Locksley was fired in the middle of this past season.
As soon as word of Crowton’s departure broke, Testudo Times pointed to Locksley as a possible answer. And now that Locksley appears to be well on his way to joining head coach Randy Edsall’s staff, our Maryland blog seems to be happy, citing his recruiting prowess.
The real story, though, is the recruiting impact. In short, Locksley is a DC-area super-recruiter. He's like football's Dalonte Hill. He's not only one of the nation's elite recruiters, he's hands-down the best in this area. He got Arrelious Benn out to Illinois, for Juan's sake.
