Hey look, a pretty good day of Kansas football news! We don’t get to say that very often.
Jake Heaps Also Transferring To Kansas, Giving Charlie Weis QB Talent

Getty ImagesThere won’t be any quarterback controversies, either, since Crist is eligible to play his senior season in 2012 and Heaps must sit out for a year. While Crist is the bigger name from the bigger program, Heaps looks to be in the more promising situation, as he’ll have a year of practice in Weis’ system (and, if all goes well, an improved offensive line) before taking over.
For Kansas fans, this is perhaps the best football day they’ve had in many months:

Earlier in the week, our own Bill Connelly projected what Kansas’ 2012 offense might look like if Weis is able to incorporate Crist. Prognosis: not a whole lot better, but probably better than the offense Jordan Webb was able to lead.

Getty ImagesThe time for second-guessing is through; Charlie Weis is Kansas’ new head coach. He has hit the recruiting trail, and the Kansas athletic department is attempting to take advantage of the “Oh, hey, I recognize that name! That must be a great hire!” reaction from the casual fanbase and is pressing for season ticket sales.
According to recent history, now is the best time of a Charlie Weis tenure. Heaps played two seasons for the Cougars, but announced his intentions to transfer earlier this month after not being able to establish himself in the starting role in Bronco Mendenhall’s offense. At the time of his transfer, Heaps mentioned that he was hoping for a fresh start.
That fresh start could come with the Jayhawks. Heaps will have to sit out the 2012 season under transfer guidelines, but Rivals site JayhawkSlant.com (via College Football Talk) is reporting that the former top quarterback prospect is visiting Kansas soon. The site also breaks down the possibility of Weis being able to land both top quarterbacks, if they’re interested.
