Former N.C. State quarterback Russell Wilson might be the next Cam Newton -- in that he’s taking over as likely starting quarterback at a school ranked No. 15-25 after an interesting journey capped off by a transfer. But he will not be the next Cam Newton by taking over at Auburn, because Wilson is reportedly headed to Wisconsin to play for the Badgers, according to Keith Arnold.
Conflicting Reports On Russell Wilson Transferring To Wisconsin
Wisconsin lands QB Russell Wilson. Crazy to think that the best -- and most stable -- program in the B1G 10 is located Madison.
And in that sense, Wilson might actually be headed for a slightly better situation than Newton encountered when he landed in Opelika. With the many, many problems at Ohio State, Wisconsin likely enters the season as one of the favorites in the Leaders Division. (That’s the one with the Buckeyes, Badgers, Penn State, Illinois, Purdue and Indiana.) Wilson can only help solidify that standing. Once everyone remembers what the Leaders Division is.
Or not, according to Matt Lincoln of NBC 12 in Richmond.
Just spoke to Russell Wilson's mother - he says Wilson HAS NOT told Wisconsin that he is going there yet. #Wisconsin #Badgers #NCState
Let’s guess that Lincoln meant to say that she says Wilson has not told Wisconsin he -- meaning Wilson -- is playing for the Badgers. In any case, there’s still some wiggle room in the construction there; Wilson could have made a decision and not told Wisconsin. But that seems to be a pretty tight denial.
Stay tuned.
