Russel Shepard’s Friday absence from SEC Media Day is due to a compliance issue related to off-campus housing, TigerSportsDigest.com reports. Shepard was one of three LSU football players expected to represent the school at the event, but had been a mysterious no-show until now.
Russell Shepard Misses SEC Media Day Due To Housing Issue
Shepard has supposedly been dealing with housing issues since he arrived on campus, and could see his eligibility in jeopardy this coming season. The report contradicts an earlier statement by LSU media relations director Michael Bonnette, who denied rumors of suspension saying that Shepard’s absence was due to personal reasons.
More details are sure to follow, but it’s safe to say that a suspension of any length would be a decent-sized blow to LSU’s offense. Shepard ranked second on team with 33 catches for 254 yards last season, adding 226 rushing yards on 32 carries with three total touchdowns. With receiver Terrence Toliver graduating, Shepard was expected to see an expanded role this season.
